This very warm colour temperature recalls candlelight or the setting sun. It works well wherever an intimate effect is desired: around seating areas, in restaurant gardens, on hotel patios, beneath pergolas, around outdoor tables or anywhere intended for quiet evening use.
Light this warm contains less blue light than cooler options and has less impact on the nighttime character of the surroundings. It may also attract fewer insects and reduce the effect of lighting on some nocturnal wildlife, including bats, amphibians and birds migrating after dark. This is particularly important in projects close to greenery, bodies of water and natural habitats. In practice, 2200 K works best where light is intended to create atmosphere, gently accent the surroundings and encourage relaxation after dark without over-illuminating the space.
A rust-coloured accent in the outdoor range
The finish of outdoor luminaires also matters during the day, when the light is off. That is why the outdoor range now includes a corten finish, a rust-coloured shade inspired by weathering steel. It is a suitable option where classic black would feel too neutral or too predictable.
Corten works well alongside raw and warm materials such as brick, architectural concrete, dark wood, stone, textured render and metal façade details. It can reinforce the more industrial character of a terrace, entrance area or façade, while in commercial spaces it can introduce a recognisable accent to the outdoor area of a restaurant, bistro, hotel or boutique.
